What Can I Pack? Luggage Allowances Made Simple

Don’t get caught playing suitcase Tetris at the check-in desk (we’ve all been there). Here’s a handy, up-to-date luggage guide for some of the most popular airlines we book for. Check your booking for the final word—but this will give you a solid head start!

EasyJet

👜 Cabin: 1 small underseat bag (max 45 x 36 x 20 cm)
🧳 Hold: Options from 15kg to 23kg (added cost)

💡 Top tip: Want a cabin-sized roller bag? Upgrade to an Up Front or Extra Legroom seat for more space.

Jet2

👜 Cabin: 1 bag (max 56 x 45 x 25 cm, up to 10kg)
🧳 Hold: 22kg included in most holiday packages

💡 Top tip: Jet2 is one of the more generous budget airlines—packing a few extra sandals? You’re probably safe.

Ryanair

👜 Cabin: 1 small personal item (max 40 x 20 x 25 cm)
🧳 Hold: 10kg or 20kg checked bags available (extra cost)

💡 Top tip: Priority boarding adds a second larger cabin bag—worth it if you’re not into sharing legroom with your backpack.

TUI

👜 Cabin: 1 piece of hand luggage (max 55 x 40 x 20 cm, up to 10kg)
🧳 Hold: 15kg or 20kg depending on your holiday package

💡 Top tip: TUI often includes luggage, but double-check your booking confirmation just to be sure.

British Airways

👜 Cabin: 1 cabin bag + 1 personal item (each up to 23kg!)
🧳 Hold: 23kg in economy (most tickets)

💡 Top tip: BA is generous with cabin weight, but stay within size limits—they will check it at the gate.

Emirates

👜 Cabin: Economy gets 1 piece (max 55 x 38 x 20 cm, up to 7kg)
🧳 Hold: 25kg–35kg depending on your fare type

💡 Top tip: Business and First get much more—so if you’re travelling in style, pack those extra outfits.

Qatar Airways

👜 Cabin: 1 piece (max 7kg in Economy)
🧳 Hold: 25kg–35kg depending on fare & route

💡 Top tip: Qatar is fab with customer service—if you’re unsure, pop them a message ahead of your flight.

KLM

👜 Cabin: 1 cabin bag + personal item (12kg combined in Economy)
🧳 Hold: 23kg in standard Economy fares (check your ticket)

💡 Top tip: If you're flying Light Economy, luggage may not be included—add it early to save money!

Virgin Atlantic

👜 Cabin: 1 bag (23 x 36 x 56 cm) + 1 personal item
🧳 Hold: 23kg in standard Economy fares more in Premium and Upper class (check your ticket)

💡 Top Tip: Upper Class lets you check in two 32kg bags – go wild!

Extra Luggage, Handbags & Sneaky Add-Ons

Travelling light? Amazing. Travelling with extras? We’ve got you covered.

From handbags and duty-free bags to baby gear and musical instruments, every airline has its quirks – and we’re here to help you dodge the confusion (and sneaky fees!). Here’s a handy guide to all those extra bits you can bring onboard – and how to do it like a seasoned jetsetter. 💼🛍️🍼🎸

💼 Personal Item vs. Cabin Bag – What’s the Diff?

Most airlines let you bring:

  • 1 cabin bag (aka “carry-on”) for the overhead locker

  • + 1 personal item (like a handbag, laptop bag, or small backpack)

💡 Tip: If it fits under the seat, it usually counts as a personal item!

🛍️ Duty-Free Bags = Your Secret Weapon

You can bring a duty-free bag onboard in addition to your hand luggage on most airlines.
💡 Buy something tiny and pop your scarf/snacks/extra bits in it. Voilà – bonus bag!

👶 Travelling with Kids?

Most airlines let you bring:

  • A baby bag (as a personal item)

  • A foldable pram and car seat for free in the hold
💡 Check if your airline offers early boarding for families – total lifesaver!

🎿 Sports & Special Gear

Items like skis, golf clubs, bikes, and diving equipment usually:

  • Require pre-booking

  • Cost extra

  • Must meet size/weight limits
💡 Some airlines offer “sports bundles” – it’s worth looking into!

🎸 Musical Instruments

Small ones may count as cabin bags. Larger ones might need their own seat (yep, really).
💡 Always check with the airline – rules vary wildly!

💻 Electronics & Valuables – Keep 'Em Close

Never check in:

  • Laptops

  • Cameras

  • Jewellery

  • Passports/Docs
💡 They belong in your personal item – not the hold!

🧳 Buying Extra Luggage?

Usually cheaper online, before you fly.
💡 Airport fees = daylight robbery. Book online and save those £££ for cocktails.
